Charging the 2024 Nissan Leaf at Home

Works with most 100A panels at 32A

This vehicle's modest charging requirements are compatible with many 100-amp panels — run the Panel Capacity Checker with your specific home loads to confirm.

The Nissan Leaf with the standard 40 kWh battery is one of the most 100-amp-panel-friendly EVs on the market. Its 6.6 kW onboard AC charger (on the base S and SV trims) means a 32A charger delivers 7.68 kW — but the car will only draw 6.6 kW due to its onboard charger limit. This makes the Leaf excellent for older homes: a 24A or 32A circuit on a 100-amp panel is typically within safe capacity, and the smaller battery means an overnight charge replenishes a typical daily commute easily. The Leaf uses the CHAdeMO DC fast charge standard — increasingly rare at public stations, something to factor into road trip planning. The LEAF Plus with its 62 kWh battery and 6.6 kW charger follows the same home charging setup. Nissan's included Level 1/2 portable charger supports up to 16A (240V) with a NEMA 6-20 adapter.

Key Charging Notes

  • 6.6 kW onboard charger limits AC charging — a 32A charger (7.68 kW) is more than sufficient
  • Excellent for 100A panels — 24A circuit typically fits within safe capacity
  • 10–80% at 32A: approximately 5 hours for 40 kWh battery
  • CHAdeMO DC fast charge standard — less common than CCS1 at public stations
